May 6 - Burning the Attachments
Spark: "The mind is its own place, and in itself can make a heaven of hell, a hell of heaven." — John Milton
Meditation: Attachment is the anchor that keeps us stuck in the harbor when we were meant for the open sea. Attachment comes in many forms—attachment to a situation, a person, a way of life, your youth! Burning the attachment is an act of liberation. It is acceptance. Like the great wooden structures that disappear into smoke on the playa, our attachments must be released to make room for the new. When we burn the need for things to be a certain way, we find a freedom that no circumstance can take away. The fire of your own awareness is enough to melt the chains of expectations.
Healing Exercise: Kriya Yoga
1. Sit with your heels just to the side of your buttocks. If you can’t sit on your heels, sit in a cross-legged position.
2. Place your thumbs on the mounds just below the little fingers of each hand and close your fingers over your thumbs in a fist.
3. Bring your fists in front of your chest, parallel to the ground. Begin rotating your closed fists very rapidly, in a counterclockwise manner.
4. Then, reverse directions. Rotate your fists in a clockwise manner.
5. Rotate your hands so fast that the motion becomes mechanical.
6. Continue for 3 minutes.
7. Close your eyes. Take 3 deep breaths and release what no longer serves you.
Notes:
1. What is one thing you believe you cannot live without, and how does that belief limit your freedom?
