May 2 - Relinquishing the Past
Spark: "The past has no power over the present moment." — Eckhart Tolle
Meditation: Holding onto the past is like trying to build a home in a dust storm that has already passed. We often stay tethered to old versions of ourselves or past mistakes, thinking they define our current landscape. Relinquishing the past is a radical act of bravery that allows the now to breathe.
Let go of what was, you create the space for what is happening to reach you. The desert teaches us that the wind is always moving, and we must learn to flow with it rather than clinging to the sun-bleached bones of yesterday.
Healing Exercise: Neuro-Linguistic Programming
1. Find a comfortable seat and take a slow breath.
2. Think of a memory from the past that makes you feel a sad or stuck.
3. Imagine that memory is a small black-and-white photograph in your hand.
4. Imagine the photograph getting smaller and smaller until it is just a tiny dot.
5. Watch the tiny dot float away into the big blue sky until you cannot see it anymore.
6. Notice how much lighter your chest feels now that the dot is gone.
Notes:
1. What is one story you tell yourself about your past that no longer serves your growth?
2. If you woke up today with no memory of your failures, what is the first thing you would try to do?
3. In what ways does your attachment to how things used to be prevent you from seeing the beauty of today?
